Caliach Vision has a comprehensive context-sensitive help system based on an HTML web browser. Every window has its own help with links to associated subject matter. In addition to the help, all window active objects have tool tips that guide novices or the forgetful.

In Caliach Vision scratchpads refer to four listing windows for selecting respectively parts, customers, suppliers and general ledger accounts. These lists can be used for selecting specific part numbers and codes wherever a selection is needed during normal program activity. Extensive use of drag-and-drop makes populating multiple entries simple and quick. Scratchpad list columns can be defined at a user level so that the data shown suits your primary purpose.

This unique and powerful feature is much like an integrated Internet search engine for master data within the system. When choosing a part, customer, supplier, marketing contact or general ledger account, instead of typing in the code you can type a * or ? and a word or part of a word. The system will then return the record that contains that word or, if there is more than one, present you with a list of all those that match. The performance of this feature is outstanding. For instance, you may want to find all customers where the word York occurs somewhere in the address. Type ?york anywhere you would normally enter a customer code and almost instantly a list will pop up of all customers with words starting with york, such as York, Yorkshire, Yorktown, etc.

A Data View is a Caliach Vision definition of a way of collecting a particular set of data. A Data View design can then be used to collect data for a screen listing, report or Graph simply by calling it by name. The results of running a Data View can be stored and referenced at a later date, so can facilitate comparisons over time.

  • A Data View design is stored in a portable text structure (XML).
  • A design can use standard serach dialogs, custom user searches and/or specific search definitions to collect main data.
  • Data can be collected forward or backwards and for a limited number of records.
  • Up to 3 joins can be made to related file data records, and these can optionally be outer-joins.
  • Supports Listjoins, a special many-to-many relationship in collecting data.
  • A final limiting search can further restrict data included in the results.
  • Full range or sorting and subtotalling is available for summary data.
  • The results set can be topped and tailed to give the top or botom sub-set.
  • Special programmable features can be applied.
  • Results can be cached either for performance or archiving reasons. Historical cached results can be used for data comparisons.
  • Designs can have User and Group security controls applied.
  • Designs can be uploaded to the Caliach Web site or downloaded from a repository of tried and tested designs.

Graphs 2 is a second generation Graphing tool embedded in Caliach Vision. With this you can generate X-Y charts, Pie charts, Polar charts and Meter charts and embed these in windows and/or reports. Designs of graphs are self-contained and stored in the datafile. Data collection is typically carried out by one or more Data Views. Graph designs can be downloaded from a web-based library of designs and then modified for your use from within Caliach Vision. Your designs can be uploaded to this collection to provide a pool of designs that all can use painlessly.

  • X-Y Charts can be bar, line, scatter, area, box whisker, high/low/open/close or candlestick charts.
  • Pie Charts can be plain or 3D, pizza or ring and can have slide-out segments.
  • Polar Charts can be area or line and normal or spline.
  • Meter Charts can be linear or radial and linear can be vertical or horizontal.
  • Data for the chart can be specific, derived from Data View designs and/or historically collected Data View results.
  • Depending on the type, graphs can support multiple layers, extra fields, parameter substitutions, number and date formatting, external images and fonts, extra texts, marks, zones, pointers and rings.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) automatically are prepared and display for a user when a KPI has been set up for that user, or a group that the user is a member of. KPIs are set to automatically present themselves to users from a particular point in time for a certain duration. KPIs are maintained in the as a System Manager function.
