Report Destinations Menu

Report Destinations Menu

Reports can be sent to any one of a number of destinations. You select the destination from the Report Destination menu that is available from the File menu, from the task toolbar (in the form of a dropdown list) or as a context menu when you right-click on any print function button, print option control or destination icon button.

Printer

Reports will be sent directly to the selected Printer.

 

Preview

Reports will be sent to a Preview window, from where it can be sent on to the Printer.

 

Screen

Reports will be sent to a Screen report window, from where it can be sent on to the Printer.

 

Disk

Reports will be sent to a Disk file. The report can be later printed using the File — Print Report from Disk function.

 

Clipboard

Reports will be sent to the Clipboard in text from. The contents can then be pasted into another program’s document.

 

Port

Reports will be sent to a Port in text from. This is not supported except for custom functions.

 

File

Reports will be sent to a File in text from.

 

HTML File

Reports will be converted into an HTML document that can be read by an internet web browser.

 

Rich Text File

Reports will be converted into an RTF document that can be read by most word processors. In most cases the formatting of the report is retained.

 

Acrobat PDF File

Reports will be converted into an Adobe Acrobat PDF document that can be read by an PDF reader. This enables the report to be read as is by someone that does not have Omnis Studio.

 

Email

Reports will be converted into a Acrobat PDF (or an HTML) document that can be read by an Adobe Acrobat Reader (or internet web browser) and attached to an Email message. Default messages are setup in File — System Manager — Email Texts.

 

Stored

Reports will be prepared to be saved in the database for printing on a future occasion. The report can be later printed using the File — Print Stored Report function. When this destination is chosen and a report is printed the Stored Report Setup window will open to enter any details and saved to the database.

Warning WARNING: What is stored is a compressed binary image of the report output. This can be large and will increase the database size considerably if routine reports are repeatedly stored. While the database can handle this, it will increase the size of backups. Regular maintenance of Stored Reports in Stored Report Maintenance is recommended.

 

Settings

Provides access to a report destination dialogue where all destination settings can be amended.

 

Tip TIP: When printing a document that can be named to a file using the following report destinations, by default and named file will be presented or the default file suffix appropriate to the destination: Disk (.rep), File (.txt), HTML (), Rich Text (.rtf) and Acrobat PDF (.pdf). Named documents are now also named in the Printer Print Queue (without suffix) and shown on the Preview and Screen windows, and if saved from there will have default file names. The naming convention for documents is as previously applied to email attachment files.

Tip TIP: There are 2 options that have report destination implications: optRepDestIndivid and optRepDestMarkDocs.
