This window shows a single level Bill-of-Materials (BoM) and Where-Used listing for the currently selected part. The window is opened by selecting Masters — Parts — BoM Listing from the main menu bar or Parts ScratchPad Options — Show BoM for Selected from the Parts ScratchPad.

File Path

Masters > Parts > BoM Listings…

This file path takes you to the Bill of Materials and Where-Used Listings window.

Auto Rebuild

Causes the list to be re-built automatically on single-click selection of a part in the list.

Operation

The window shows all parts in the immediate single level BoM for the currently selected part in the top half of the list, and all parts containing the currently selected part in their immediate single level BoM in the bottom half of the list.

To make a part the currently selected part in the Parts ScratchPad (and the Part Maintenance window if open), click on the part in the list.

To re-build the list for a part, double-click on the part in the list.

If the Auto Rebuild option for the window is selected, single-clicking on a part in the list will automatically re-build the list for the selected part, with no need to double-click. In this way it is possible to “walk” up and down the BoM structure.

Part Current Costs Log Report Selection

This window is opened from the window using the Print Report button. With this window you can select a range of log records to be printed subject to the selection you make.

Button	Action
Cancel	Aborts the process currently in session. The keyboard equivalent is the Esc key for Windows computers and Command-.(full stop or period) for the Mac.
Print Report	Will cause a report to be printed of the subject matter. Right-click to change the report destination. Drag and drop from the parts Scratchpad to get a report of just the Scratchpad selected parts. In this case the date range entered will further restrict the records printed.

Operation

Enter data in the data entry boxes to restrict the range of records. Records must meet all criteria entered to be selected. If the left and/or right data entry boxes are left blank for a particular criteria, records will be selected between the first and/or last otherwise qualifying record. Data entry boxes can be populated by finding a single item using Keyword Search, drag and drop from the Parts ScratchPad or by double-clicking a list item from the Keyword Result window.

Data records can be obtained using one of the following methods or a combination of them (see Tip below):

1. Enter values into the selection ranges and use the Standard Search. The context menu provides a Clear Selection function.
2. Define or use a Custom Search.
3. Create an Ad Hoc Search Calculation using the context menu function.
4. Drag-and-drop one or more lines from the Parts ScratchPad (or BoM and Where-Used Listing) onto the general window area.
5. Use the ScratchPad Transfer Selected function
6. Use the KeyWord Search Transfer Selected function

TIP: Using an Ad Hoc Search Calculation (3) overrides any Custom Search (2) and a Custom Search overrides the Standard Search (1). In any of the search cases (1, 2 or 3), ScratchPad Transfer and Drag-and-Drop or KeyWord Search Transfer (4, 5 or 6) is combinational, so that records found using any of these methods must also conform to the search criteria adopted.

NOTE: This window contains fields introduced with version 5 that enable additional search (and sometimes sort controls), such as Adhoc extra where. For more help on their use and examples see the Client-Server SQL Introduction help.

Parts Current Quantity

This subwindow allows the analysis of current process quantities for parts. It is displayed on windows where this information is useful and required quickly.

Operation

To drill-down and view document listings making up the current quantities shown, double-click in a data display box to open the relevant Part Processing Analysis window. Double-clicking in the background area of the subwindow will result in the Part Processing Analysis window for Projected Stock.

The Last Change data display box shows the last date and time the quantity values changed.

To open the MRP Results Listing window click MRP Results.

Notes

If the quantity shown in a data display box differs from the sum of the quantities from the documents listed in the relevant Part Processing Analysis window, it may be necessary to Re-set Part Process Quantities in the Datafile Integrity Maintenance window.

Part, Customer or Supplier Master and Related Export and Import

This window takes three forms depending on whether it was opened from the Part Maintenance, Customer Maintenance or Supplier Maintenance window.

This window is primarily used to copy a master record and all its relations from one datafile to another.

Exporting master data from this window creates a datafile that you can name and loads into it the master record(s) and related master records. For example a part record must have an index code 1 and 2 and may have standard texts, a preferred supplier, an alias part and a byproduct part. All these records will be saved in the export file. In addition, you can select from the options to include other master records and their associated records. An internal log is maintained of the exported records in the export file which is used during the import process to re-establish the relationships. An Alert Message window opens at the end of Export and Import to report what records have been included.

Dragging a number of selected lines from the ScratchPad and dropping onto the Export button will export the group of master records.

When importing from a exported datafile, all logged records are imported if they do not already exist in the datafile you are importing into.

WARNING: Currencies are ignored when importing. Take care that if costs and prices are significant and currencies are not common in both the Export and Import datafiles, you will need to subsequently amend values in the imported records.

Parts

When exporting parts, you have the option to Also Include parts, customers and suppliers encountered. Encountered parts will be treated in the same way as the exported part. So, if you have checked the Component and Parent Relations, you may well export all parts in the BoM file. Related customer parts and purchase parts are not included when you Also Include Customers or Also Include Suppliers.

Message for Part

This window opens to warn a user that a part is subject to engineering change. This happens if the part has the Engineering Warning – Change-in-Progress attribute set. It appears in Sales, Job, Purchase or Work Order processing. The warning message shows any Engineering Notes for the part.

TIP: You can setup the optJobNoEngChange option in Settings Maintenance. If the value is 1, users will be prevented from adding a part which has Engineering-in-Progress set to a Estimate or Job, rather than just given a warning.

CUSTOM CAPABILITY: The standard message of Part %1 is currently subject to an Engineering Change. Continue anyway? can be changed by amending String s1861 using the File — Advanced — String Maintenance. This may not be the only string used in the program for the message on this window.

Update Part Issue and References

This parts maintenance menu function acts on the currently selected part and prepares a list of all references to the part that have an active engineering Issue.

This list will include any reference to the part as:

• a Bill of Material component,
• a Job line item,
• a Product Serial Number record,
• a Purchase Order line item,
• a Work Order assembly.

When used in the above, the part engineering Issue reference is held specifically (i.e. the parts master Issue reference field is not used, except as a default when the part reference is created). This enables you to have different Issues to the current parts master Issue and hence control engineering change more readily than otherwise.

With the list prepared, you can use the Print button to obtain a report. You can also update the reference records to a new current parts master Issue by selecting those lines you want updated, using the click, click-drag, command[ctrl]-click and shift-click mouse actions, and then clicking on the Update Issue on Selected Items button.

Part Planning Variables Analysis

This window is accessible from the MRP Order Options Menu which is on either the MRP Purchase Order Recommendations window or MRP Work Order Recommendations window.

The Basic and Costs pane shows the part and some basic cost and quantity data. You can click on the Update Costs button to recalculate current costs using a single-level cost calculation.

The What-If Planning pane contains an area for planning variables in which you can change values and see the results projected within the What-if block on the right.

The following un-stored values are calculated as shown:

• Planned Maximum Stock Quantity = Minimum Order Quantity* + Re-Order Level
• Yearly Usage = computed from the last period usage fields covering at least a year
• Stock Rotation = Yearly Usage / ((Minimum Level + Planned Maximum) / 2) I.E. an estimate of the number of expected stock cycles per year

If you click on the Save What-if button, any changes you have made to Stock Rotation, Minimum Level, Lot Size, Lead Time, Minimum Order Quantity and Re-Order Level will be saved in the part master record. Clicking on Revert, closes the window without any datafile changes.

NOTE: Changes made here will affect the part in future MRP runs. It WILL NOT change recommendations for P/WOs currently held in the MRP results file.

The Purchase History pane of the window contains a list showing Purchase History.

CUSTOM CAPABILITY: You may wish this window to be available elsewhere in Caliach Vision. If so, you can add it into the Parts ScratchPad menu. You will need to add the following code to oCustom1.$PartsScratchTitleNN and oCustom1.$PartsScratchMenuNN methods in the normal way:
